So, it's been a while since I've done anything on here. I haven't had any projects going on or the time to think about creating any new art, but as the busy season comes to an end, I figured I'd try to start off the new year right.
Every once in a while I find myself wanting/needing a light table... so, first order of business, is to get the tools needed to get creative. Here's a how to:
First, draw out what you want it to look like. Figure out the dimensions and all that garbage before you do anything else so you know what you need.
Just like making a frame, I just notched a piece of 1x4. The size of the recess depends on the thickness of plexi or glass you use (going back to the first part). Miter the joints, or you can do a butt joint, it doesn't need to look pretty. From there I glued & screwed the joints together so it'll be strong.
I used a roundover bit around the outside edge to dress it up a little bit, but its completely uneccassary. Attached the fluorescent lights. (I chose the depth of the wood based off the fixtures that I found.) After that, Install the plexi and its pretty much done. I had the dood over at the depot cut it down to the size I needed and made the frame accordingly. I did notch the plexi so I had a finger hole to take it off easier because the lights I used have the on/off on the housing itself. I might stain the wood black just to make the lights seem brighter but that's it, pretty much done. Time to get drawing...
